Why Have Your Wedding in Reading?

Reading is a beautiful city with so much going on. It’s also a great place to host a wedding as it turns out! In this article, we’re going to go over some of the reasons that make Reading a great place to tie the knot…

1. It’s a Historical Haven

All of Britain is filled with history, but Reading really takes the biscuit. Its history is known for the 3Bs – Reading was the home of bulbs, beers and biscuits. In fact Huntley and Palmer’s biscuit factory was the largest in the world in the 19th century! All this means that Reading’s buildings are incredibly detailed and all beautiful.

2. It’s Romantic

When considering locations for your wedding, simply being a romantic place may feature somewhere on your list of must-haves. Well, Reading certainly ticks that box. Walk around the beautiful Forbury Gardens hand in hand, spotting elderly couples doing the same. Go to Basildon Park, a beautiful stately home made of honey-coloured Bath stone, and Lady Iliffe’s Rose Garden.

3. Great Location

Reading is of course a city, so if you have friends and family all based in the city, travel will certainly not be an issue. It’s very reachable. However, if you have family travelling from further afield, Reading is perfectly situated just the right amount of miles away from London to the west. This means family can get trains, taxis and even fly in for minimal costs than it would if you were further away from the big city.

4. Not a Big City Vibe

Despite its fantastic central location, it doesn’t feel like a big city. It actually feels abundant in nature, space and more of a town compared to London. If you want that big city feeling, marry in London. If you would prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle on your wedding day, Reading is a great choice.

5. Reasonably Priced

Yes, Reading is a city so it can be pricy, but compared to its neighbouring city, it’s very affordable. This is definitely something you should make sure you consider when looking at locations to choose your venue in as it will have a big impact on venue cost.

6. Plenty of Churches

If getting married in a church is important to you, you have over 12 to choose from in this big town/city! Some are really beautiful old churches too for you to walk down the aisle in, and surrounding venues really aren’t that far. Everything is in quite a close proximity.
