CREATE HEIGHT ON YOUR WEDDING RECEPTION TABLES

There’s nothing worse than trying to strain your neck around an obstructive table decoration at a wedding reception. By making your floral arrangements really (really!) tall, not only will you allow your guests to see a bit more of one another, you’ll also create masses of colour above head height, making your floral investment more visible and more dramatic. This is also a great way to ensure you make the most of reception venues which have soaring ceilings!

ENJOY BOLD COLOURS

Traditionally, brides opt for pastel shades, but for real impact, go bold. These buttonholes make use of a bit of pastel pink, but with bright fuchsia pink shades and big blooms (think peonies) they create a real impact. You can also use unconventional foliage like holly with red berries for winter weddings, ears of wheat for summer weddings and employ scented foliage like lavender in summer or rosemary for rustic buttonholes.

CREATE A FRAME

If you’re struggling for inspiration as to where to position flowers in your reception, if you’d like a Photo Booth but don’t want to use props, consider creating a frame. If you’re really clever, this can initially be used as a frame for your table plan, and once guests are seated, or after the wedding breakfast, it can be repurposed as a frame for photos.

GO MONO OR CONSIDER AN OMBRÉ SCHEME

Really creative florists will use colour effectively to really maximise dramatic impact. Two ways of doing this includes a single colour scheme, or an ombré scheme for your wedding flowers, with one or two colours fading into, for instance, white.

USE FLORAL DESIGN TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR BUDGET

As tasteful as the wedding cake pictured below is, there’s nothing inherently dramatic or expensive in its design. It has, however, been beautifully styled with flowers and herbs – wheat and rosemary are abundantly available, inexpensive and have managed to turn a budget cake into a dramatic addition to a rustic or country-inspired wedding.

MAKE THE MOST OF BUDGET-FRIENDLY BLOOMS

Whilst old English roses and other premium blooms look lovely, there’s a way to maximise the impact of your flowers without blowing your wedding budget. Pictured here is a pretty table centre for a rustic summer wedding which makes the most of cheap and definitely cheerful freesia and gerbera.

All of the ideas above have been provided by Interflora, which represents 1,300 independent florists across the UK. Seek out an independent local floral artist and budget between £500 and £1,500 for your wedding flowers. You can also find local suppliers for any element of your wedding at www.ukbride.co.uk.
