How to Have a Travel-Themed Wedding

If you and your partner are big fans of travelling it makes sense to have a travel-themed wedding. More and more holiday-loving couples are opting to use travel as their wedding theme, as there are just so many different ways of incorporating travel into your wedding day. Therefore, if you do decide to opt for a travel theme, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to theme ideas.

We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite ideas for a travel-themed wedding to set you on the path towards your perfect wedding day…

Ticket Wedding Invitations

A really fun way of incorporating the travel theme into your wedding invitations is by using a plane ticket/boarding pass design. You could even go as far as making your invitation look like a passport with a boarding pass inside! Another cute idea which is quite popular is to have your ‘Save the Dates’ as luggage tags!

Destination Table Names

Having your table names as destinations is perfect for a travel-themed wedding. It’s even more special if the destinations are places the bride and groom have visited together. You can even have a world map as your table plan, with arrows pointing to the destination for each table. On the tables themselves, you can sit the destination name, along with polaroids of the bride and groom when they visited the destination. Then you can add decorations relating to the place – so, for Paris for example, you could use an ornament of the Eiffel Tower. For place settings, you could give your guests a luggage tag with their name on.

Postcard Guest Book

For a really unique take on the traditional guest book, you could ask guests to take a postcard instead and write their well-wishes on that. It’s even more sentimental if the postcards are from places you and your partner have visited together!

Globes

Globes obviously make a great addition to a travel-themed wedding – they make fabulous decorations for both around the venue and as table centrepieces. Why not DIY your own quote globe? Plain chalkboard globes with quotes like ‘And so the adventure begins’ written across them make really sweet decorations. You could even turn a globe into your guest book, by asking guests to sign their names on one!

Map Print

Map print is a must-have for any travel-inspired wedding. Whether it’s on the invites, the place-settings or the table numbers, it’s a great way of tying the travel theme together. Vintage map print and retro suitcases work really well together.

Quirky Card Boxes

Speaking of retro suitcases, these work really well open as a quirky place to house your wedding cards from guests. Or, you could even use a globe with a slit in the top for guests to pop their cards in!

Airmail Favours

Mini vintage airmail boxes are a super cute way of housing your wedding favours. They give your guests something really special to take away with them and aren’t that difficult to make yourself.

Travel-themed Wedding Cake

There are a few different ways of incorporating the travel theme into your wedding cake. You could have a cake with a world map on it or a tiered cake that looks like vintage suitcases stacked on one another. You could even have a cake highlighting all the different places you’ve been to with your other half, and have the landmarks from each place dotted around it.
