Bold Wedding Styling

Bold wedding styling in a styled shoot by Harvey & Harvey.
We love the bold wedding styling that this shoot, created by Nadia Wood and photographer Adrian Harvey, demonstrates. There are at least five great examples of inspiration that every bride should take note of…
Cakes don’t have to be white…

Wedding cakes needn’t necessarily be white with ruffles; bold colours and straight lines can look stunning.

As our featured shoot’s wedding cake proves, you don’t need to stick to a pure white cake with ruffles and sugar flowers. Straight lines, a simple design and bold non-pastel colours can work well too. Our royal blue cake has two tiers broken up with simple straight lines around the circumference. We think it looks smarter and more contemporary than more traditional designs, so work closely with your cake artist and consider a more modern design.

Pastel is passé, bold is beautiful

There’s a new trend towards ‘branding’ your wedding – it’s a marketing term, but simply put, it means keeping your wedding styling consistent.

We absolutely love this contemporary stationery. Again, we’re eschewing ‘gothic’ fonts, in terms of a clean serif font with just the odd highlight of script typography. The blue highlight colour has been carried through, as have the geometric lines of the cake. No frills, lots of negative (clean, white) space in the design and most important of all, consistent wedding ‘branding’ – all of the different elements of the wedding share a similar look.

Roses Aren’t Red…

Subtle pastels have been used to create the floral decorations.

We love the floral decoration here, with the blue flowers subtly alluding to the main highlight colour and more expensive pink and white roses juxtaposed by filler foliage and gyp for volume. It’s not always necessary to opt for bold floral colour schemes – pastel bouquets and ties can work well too.

Less is More

In design, less is sometimes more – the 1920s influence of this wedding is subtle, but effective.

When it comes to introducing a particular look into your wedding, less can sometimes be more. Stylist Nadia wanted to allude to the 1920s, but rather than flooding the day with gaudy gold and lots of glitz, the bride’s flawless skin was punctuated by a bold lip colour, and her neat updo was complemented by a vintage tiara. Likewise, a beautifully embroidered dress with lots of subtle detail was nicely juxtaposed by a huge, extravagant train!

Keep it Country

The groom’s smart tailoring has been mixed up with country tweed.

And finally, stylist Nadia has spruced up the groom with smart tailoring, whilst adding in a Prince of Wales check waistcoat in grey. Naturally there are blue highlights, and a well-executed mix of patterns bring in the blue colour scheme.
